Quantum computing is an entirely new paradigm of computation that promises to solve some of the most difficult problems that are currently intractable on classical supercomputers. Thus some tech giants and leading research groups around the world have been actively trying different physical systems to build practical quantum computers. In this talk, I will give a brief overview on the recent development of quantum computers and quantum computing. Then I will focus on silicon-based quantum-dot spin-qubit quantum computing, from the basic science through to its prospects and challenges for large-scale realization based on CMOS manufacturing. After that, I will discuss effort in quantum computing at the National Taiwan University (NTU).
